Real Estate and Some Fun Facts

Last weekend I had the pleasure of being the best man at my brothers wedding. The wedding was in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. And like any wedding, especially one that is far from home, there were difficulties and hiccups along the way. For example, the wedding was set to be on the beach in a little cove. When we arrived on Thursday we saw people building a huge venue on the beach about 50 yards down from where my brothers wedding was supposed to be. Our first thought was, "Awesome! That looks beautiful" our second thought was, "Oh shit, thats not for our wedding!" Turns out for the first wedding ever in that cove, they double booked. But like all weddings, those small or major issues all tended to disappear when the actual wedding happened and it could not have gone better. 10/10 weekend, would do it again.

Today in History: The American Civil War
On this date in 1861 Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina which marked the beginning of the civil war. The battle lasted two days before the Union soldiers eventually surrendered. Oddly enough, not a single person was killed in the battle, but this battle would go on to start the bloodiest war in American history. At the time of the battle, 7 states had already seceded from the United States. This battle resulted in enormous support for military action in both the north and south. After the battle 4 more states seceded and President Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers to put down the rebellion.
What's Happening This Week: Gas vs. Electric Stove
The next big Chicago City Council fight began yesterday over the future use of gas stoves. The proposal by the Environmental Committee is to propose a ban on gas stoves for all future new construction buildings. The building standard would be a dramatic step in Chicago's fight against climate change. The measure is backed by Mayor Brandon Johnson and allies on the city council including environmental groups. And obviously on the opposing end is the cities natural gas provider, Peoples Gas. This would not effect existing structures, however it would effect renovations of existing structures. Proponents of the measure mainly argue environmental reasons. On the other end, they argue it would give ComEd a monopoly over energy in the city and raise gas prices for existing consumers to maintain the cities gas systems already in place.
Coming to the Market Soon: 2733 N. Pulaski
One of the coolest homes I have seen in Chicago is about to hit the market at $3,500,000. Designed by famous HGTV Interior Designer, Alison Victoria, this former warehouse has turned into what looks and feels like an interior Italian Garden. The location was originally her design firms office before she decided to turn the 7,000 square foot space into a four bedroom home with accessories and other pieces shipped in from Paris to complete it. Cramped between two other buildings, the home still gets loads of natural light thanks to the ceiling windows that run along the whole home. See below for some photos of what is soon to be one of the hottest listings in the city.
